Frequently Asked Questions
How do I start tracking time?
Tap the Edit button (pencil icon) in the top-right corner to create your first tag. Give it a name and color, then tap the tag circle to start a timer. Tap again to stop.
How do I create more tags?
Tap the Edit button, then tap the + button to add a new tag. You can create as many tags as you need.
Can I edit a time entry after the fact?
Yes, there are several ways to adjust your time entries:
•
Long-press on an active tag to adjust its start time
•
Long-press on a stopped tag to start it with a custom time (e.g., 15 minutes ago)
•
Open the Entries panel (list icon) to view, edit, or delete any entry
You can also enable quick adjust buttons in Settings. When turned on, small clock icons appear briefly after starting or stopping a timer for fast corrections.
What does "pinned" mean?
Normally, starting one timer stops the previous one. When you long-press to start a timer, you can toggle "Start pinned" — a pinned entry keeps running even when you start another tag. This is useful for tracking background tasks while switching focus.
How do I sync across devices?
Cloud sync requires a Premium subscription. Once subscribed, sign in with the same account on all your devices and your data will sync automatically.
Will I lose my data if I don't upgrade?
No. Free users have all their data stored locally on their device. It stays there as long as you keep the app installed. Upgrading to Premium adds cloud backup and sync, but it's completely optional.
Troubleshooting
My timer isn't syncing
Make sure you're signed in with a Premium account on all devices. Check your internet connection. If the issue persists, try signing out and back in.
The iOS widget isn't updating
iOS widgets update periodically, not in real-time. If the widget seems stuck, try removing and re-adding it to your home screen. Make sure the app has background refresh enabled in Settings.
I accidentally deleted a tag
When you delete a tag, you're asked whether to also delete its time entries. If you kept the entries, they're still in your history (shown as "Unknown" tag). If you deleted everything, the data cannot be recovered.
The app is using too much battery
TickTappy uses minimal resources. If you notice high battery usage, check if sound reminders are enabled on an active timer. Consider disabling reminders for long-running timers.
